The EU is a net exporter of eggs and egg products

According to data from the European Commission, the EU (EU27) was a net exporter of eggs and egg products in the first two months of 2025. Although imports increased by 59.5 percent to 26 thousand tonnes compared to the same period of the previous year, exports were significantly higher, at 63 thousand tonnes (+3 percent). The EU’s largest target countries remained the United Kingdom, Japan and Switzerland.

According to data from the Central Statistical Office, Hungary purchased almost 7 thousand tonnes of shell eggs from the international market in the first four months of 2025 (–30 percent compared to the same period of the previous year), of which it imported 13 percent fewer, 5.8 thousand tonnes of fresh eggs. Shell egg exports decreased by 26 percent to 3.6 thousand tonnes, of which fresh egg exports amounted to 638 tonnes (+58 percent) between January and April 2025. The packing house price of table eggs in the EU was 261 euros/100 kilograms in the first twenty-four weeks of 2025, which increased by 19 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. According to AKI PÁIR data, the packing house price of table eggs (M+L) from cage farming in Hungary was 66.24 forints/piece in the first twenty-four weeks of 2025, which exceeded the average price of the same period of 2024 by 28.7 percent. The packing house price of table eggs (M+L) from deep-litter farming was 74.65 forints/piece (+25.4 percent) at the same time.
