Cherries from Újfehértó have also been protected in the EU
The European Commission has approved the inclusion of sour cherries in Újfehértó on the list of protected designations of origin, the Brussels body announced on Thursday.
According to the information provided by the Commission, the protection applies to the burgundy or dark red, sour-sweet, hard-fleshed sour cherries produced in the Nyírség region of eastern Hungary. Its characteristics are related to the climatic conditions of the region and the special knowledge related to variety selection and cultivation methods. (MTI)
