The new congress center makes Balatonfüred the capital of conference tourism in Balaton
The new congress center will make Balatonfüred the capital of conference tourism in Balaton – declared the minister leading the Prime Minister’s Office at the handover of the investment in the lakeside town, which was made in the amount of approximately ten billion forints.
Gergely Gulyás emphasized: Balatonfüred developed “explosively” in the decades left behind. Since the regime change, there is no question that it has become the most visited settlement on the northern coast, he said.
However, there was a gap that had to be filled: a city of such importance needs a conference center, added the minister.
Speaking about the importance of the investment, Gergely Gulyás noted: it has been a problem at Lake Balaton for decades that while the settlements are filled with tourists in the summer, from autumn to early spring the accommodation capacities cannot be filled in the same way as in the summer.
However, the congress center also serves to ensure that many people come to Balatonfüred to Lake Balaton and hold events here in the fall, winter and spring, he said.
According to the information of the minister who heads the Prime Minister’s Office, last year in Hungary, about one hundred thousand businesses were engaged in tourism and these provided jobs for almost four hundred thousand people.
