Starbucks Teams Up With SSP To Expand In Europe
The world's largest coffee-shop chain, is planning to open more than 150 outlets in airports and train stations across Europe during the next three years via an agreement with UK licensee SSP.
A former unit of catering company
Compass Group, SSP sells food at travel-linked sites in 29 nations
under brands from Upper Crust to Burger King.
The new Starbucks
outlets will be opened in the UK, France and Germany as the chain
looks to offset a slumping US market with overseas growth. Earlier
this month, through a Mexican partnership, Starbucks opened its first
coffee shop in Argentina. The European deal is Starbucks' largest
licensing agreement outside the US. "These three countries are
just the beginning of what I think is a broader opportunity,"
said Starbucks Chairman and Chief Executive Howard Schultz.
