The average yield of peaches and nectarines may be twice that of last year
In Hungary, the harvest of peaches and nectarines decreased to 13.80 thousand tons (-35 percent) in 2023 (Eurostat). According to the publication of the Agrárközgazdasági Intézet Informative report on summer agricultural work, peach picking was at 51.2 percent on July 16, 2024, and the average yield was around 10.8 tons/hectare, which is almost double last year’s yield per hectare.
Hungary’s peach and nectarine foreign trade balance was negative in 2023: imports 15,000 tons, exports 925 tons (KSH). In the first five months of this year, compared to the same period last year, 107 percent more nectarines and peaches (1.16 thousand tons) arrived in the country. According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of peaches on the Budapest Wholesale Market was 13 percent lower (HUF 667/kilogram) 24–33 2024. per week than a year earlier.
