Lipton Bottles Made from 100 Percent rPET
PepsiCo wants Lipton to help transform the beverage market toward greater sustainability. Starting April 2021, all bottles in the entire iced tea range will be made from 100 percent rPET.
PepsiCo already announced at the end of 2020 that it would be the first beverage company in Germany to use only 100 percent recycled plastic (rPET) in all its beverage bottles by the end of 2021. Regarding the Lipton brand, the target is now already being achieved: from April 2021 on, all bottles in the entire iced tea range are to be made from 100 percent rPET. In doing so, the brand intends to play a pioneering role in the plastics debate in this country. Over the course of the year, all of the Group’s carbonated beverages, such as the Pepsi, Pepsi Max and Schwip Schwap brands, will then follow suit.
With the holistic switch to rPET, PepsiCo aims to save 15,000 tons of virgin plastic per year. According to the company, that equates to a saved CO2 equivalent of 28,500 metric tons, or the annual CO2 emissions of 6,200 cars.
