The Economic Committee of the National Assembly supported the Hungarian Competition Authority’s (GVH) report last year
On Tuesday, the Economic Committee of the Parliament supported the parliamentary adoption of the report on the activities of the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) for 2025 – the competition authority announced in a statement sent to MTI.
According to the statement, Csaba Balázs Rigó, President of the GVH, highlighted at the committee meeting: the GVH Competition Council imposed fines of more than 3.7 billion forints in 2025 and granted 3.3 billion forints in fine reductions to cooperating enterprises.
He added: “The Hungarian people also received additional direct compensation worth approximately 800 million forints from the companies that committed violations thanks to the GVH’s procedures.”
The President of the GVH said that in 2025 the national competition authority also paid special attention to the fight against cartels, the investigation of global technology companies, online platforms and food retail companies, and operated the online Price Monitoring System, which also contributed to curbing inflation.
Csaba Balázs Rigó said at the committee meeting: “In 2026, we will also strive to protect the Hungarian people and fair market competition, in cooperation with our partners. The age of dangers we live in. The geopolitical realignment, wars, energy crisis and uncertainty experienced in the world also affect market processes. Therefore, predictability and security continue to be of great importance”.
Erik Bánki, Chairman of the Economic Committee of the Parliament, evaluating the performance of the national competition authority last year, pointed out that the Economic Competition Authority fully fulfilled its legal obligations in 2025 and operated efficiently and transparently – the GVH wrote in its statement.
