Fruits have become more expensive in Europe despite the Russian embargo
Much less, but better quality peaches have grown this year. The FruitVeB estimates that the volume of production can reach 42 to 45 thousand tonnes. The Hungarian apricot prices are 15-20 percent higher than last year. In case of nectarine the difference is 34 percent.
In Hungary, the peach harvest ranged from 16 to 60 thousand tons in recent years. The domestic peach and nectarine crop was almost entirely bought by the domestic consumers. Hungary’s fresh peaches and nectarin foreign trade balance is negative. According to the data of the Central Statistical Office (KSH), the volume of imports was six thousand tons in 2014, while the volume of exports was 122 tons in 2014. Hungary’s nectarine imports in the first five months of 2015 increased by 11 percent to 341 tonnes, compared to the same period of the last year. (by our colleague)
