Because of the “olive Ebola” two thousand trees had to be destroyed in the Balearic Islands
Due to the spread of the Xylella fastidiosa disease about two thousand trees had to be destroyed in the Spanish Balearic Islands, which therefore limited the export of certain plant species as well – several Spanish dailies wrote on Friday.
The presence in Italy last year, causing the death of a million olive trees were also due to the Xylella fastidiosa bacteria. It was identified for the first time last autumn on the island of Mallorca on cherry trees and oleanders.
The spread of the disease risks the EU’s olive oil production as well. (MTI)
