Every year, OKSZ member organizations engage in Christmas fundraising and distribution campaigns with exemplary commitment. In association with the annual campaigns of the Hungarian Food Bank and the Hungarian Red Cross, the supermarkets collect more than 100 tons of non-perishable food for those in need, and this year the two organizations can put together more than 100,000 donation packages from these.

In addition, the supermarkets also support the selfless work of charitable organizations with financial support, and support those in need in their immediate environment with independent campaigns.

“The OKSZ member companies have contributed to the collection of more than 700 million forints in donations in this year’s Christmas fundraising campaigns, and although we do not have exact figures yet, this result is already outstanding. This is not our success, but that of the civil organizations that work to deliver the donations to their destination, and of the customers who do not forget themselves in all this fuss. about those for whom it is not at all clear that Jesus is coming,” says Tamás Kozák, Secretary General of the OKSZ.

Joint campaigns of the Hungarian Food Bank and the Hungarian Red Cross

  • As part of the joint collection of the Hungarian Food Bank and the largest supermarket chains (Aldi, Auchan, Lidl, Metro, Tesco), a total of 479 tons of non-perishable food donations worth 505 million forints were collected in 473 stores between November 14-16. In addition, several grocery chains supported the work of the Hungarian Food Bank with special financial support. From the donations, the hands reaching out to the Hungarian Food Bank put together 95,811 food packages.
  • In cooperation with the Hungarian Red Cross, Auchan and Penny collected a total of more than 75 tons of non-perishable food and household cleaning products for those in need. Although there are no exact figures yet, the Red Cross can put together around ten thousand donation packages from the donations.

  • The department store chain also donated several million forints to the Hungarian Food Bank for Christmas preparations.
  • As the year drew to a close, ALDI customers, colleagues and animal protection partner organizations gathered 54,431 kilograms of pet food and cat litter, of which 4,200 dogs and 4,000 cats benefited from the Ant Community organized by.

Auchan

  • Auchan organized its “One Package of Love” campaign for the fifth year, within the framework of which it received support packages at designated collection points in all 24 of its stores between November 28-30 and December 5-7, from which more than 30 tons of donations were collected. The donations will be received by various needy groups in the immediate vicinity of the stores before the holidays.
  • Auchan supplemented the results of the campaign organized in cooperation with the Red Cross with a financial support of 1 million forints.
  • Auchan organized the “You can do good with every Elf!” As part of its program, Auchan donates 500 forints from the price of each Prankster Elf figure to three programs that promote children’s health and mental well-being. The store’s goal is to raise 25 million forints, which will support the “Kuckó” program of SOS Children’s Villages, the “MRre Futunk” program of the Semmelweis Children’s Clinic, and the “Mindenjó” program of the Together for Children with Cancer Foundation.
  • After the holidays, Auchan organizes a national pet food collection campaign with the Ant Community during the hardest winter months. Last year, almost 20 tons of pet food were collected in 24 Auchan stores, from which 3,000 dogs and 1,000 cats could live well in the long term.

  • With this year’s fundraising campaign, Lidl Hungary supported three organizations that help disadvantaged children in various ways. The Heti Betevő Association, the Etesd Foundation and the Szeretet a Válasz Non-Profit Association will benefit from the 20 million forints of donations collected. The proportion was decided by the customers with their vote that ended on December 11th.

METRO

  • In a campaign organized jointly with the Hungarian Food Bank, METRO stores donated 12 tons of durable goods between November 14-16.

Penny:

  • Penny Hungary supports charitable partners with around 15 million forints in cash or product donations during the Christmas period alone, with a focus on those in need and children. The discount chain involves both its employees and customers in its charity activities, and thanks to the collaboration, it will make the Christmas of thousands of people in need happier this year.
  • The traditional Advent fundraising campaign of the Hungarian Red Cross and PENNY was organized for the sixth time. The national initiative ended with a more successful result than ever before: customers donated nearly 47 thousand kilograms of non-perishable food in Penny stores alone, which the Hungarian Red Cross will deliver to those in need before the holidays.

SPAR

  • This year, the joint Christmas fundraiser of the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service and SPAR Hungary, the Adni Öröm! campaign, has also been launched. In the campaign that ends on December 16, families in need can be supported with the help of donation cards purchased in selected SPAR and INTERSPAR stores. The food purchased with the value of the donation cards will be delivered from the stores to those in need with the help of the employees and volunteers of the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service – even before Christmas.
  • Between December 11 and 16, 2025, volunteers of the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service will personally receive customers’ donations of non-perishable food in the 148 designated SPAR and INTERSPAR stores. The greatest help for families in need is dry pasta, rice, canned goods, cooking oil, sugar, flour, baby food, instant soups, allergen-free products, as well as small sweets and holiday snacks.
  • SPAR also offers a solution for those who do not have a SPAR or INTERSPAR store nearby: donors can join the campaign online this year via the website https://adomanyozz.hu/gyujtes/adniorom2025, where they can support the collection with any amount.

Tesco:

Between November 17 and December 31, anyone can contribute to supporting families and children in difficult situations by purchasing 300 forint donation coupons available at traditional and self-service checkouts in almost 200 Tesco stores. In the first 3 weeks, Tesco employees sold almost 60 million forints worth of donation coupons.
  • During the Advent period, the stores manage a specific budget per region and support their smaller community. This year we have already supported dozens of local organizations with Santa packages, Christmas gifts, and food.
  • The Tesco Angel Foundation supports employees in crisis. In the foundation’s Adopt a Wish campaign this year, the wishes of more than 50 colleagues were granted by employees working in the Central Office.
