GDP growth in OECD member countries slowed to 0.3 percent in the last quarter of last year
The GDP of the member countries of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) grew by 0.3 percent on average in the fourth quarter of last year, a slowdown compared to the 0.4 percent expansion in the third quarter, the Paris-based organization’s website states.
The OECD noted that this is not yet a final calculation, as it was based on data from 24 of its 38 member countries.
Economic growth accelerated in ten countries compared to the third quarter, remained unchanged in two, and slowed in seven. GDP fell in five other countries.
In the G7, quarter-on-quarter economic growth accelerated in Germany (from zero to 0.3 percent) and Italy (from 0.2 percent to 0.3 percent), while in France it slowed from 0.5 percent to 0.2 percent. Canada’s GDP fell by 0.1 percent after expanding by 0.6 percent in the third quarter.
Japan’s economy grew by 0.1 percent after contracting by 0.7 percent in the third quarter. The United Kingdom’s GDP growth rate was unchanged at 0.1 percent. This group is still missing data on the economic performance of the United States.
According to preliminary calculations, OECD GDP grew by 1.7 percent last year, following 1.2 percent expansion in 2024 and 1.1 percent in 2023.
Ireland had the highest economic growth rate last year, at 12.6 percent.
All 24 countries saw GDP grow last year, while seven countries saw their economies shrink in 2024.
