Unemployment in OECD countries stagnated at 4.9 percent in July
The unemployment rate in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries was 4.9 percent in July, unchanged from the previous month, the organisation’s website says.
Unemployment fell in 11 countries and rose in only two (Ireland and Sweden). Twenty countries remained unchanged.
Three countries, Japan, South Korea and Slovenia, recorded unemployment rates below 3 percent. Spain is the only country with a double-digit rate, at 10.4 percent.
The number of unemployed people in OECD countries was 34.256 million in July, 223,000 fewer than in June.
In July, the unemployment rate for women remained at 5 percent and for men at 4.8 percent. Youth unemployment (aged 15 to 24) fell to 11.2 percent in July from 11.4 percent the previous month.
