Annual inflation in the OECD slowed to 3.7 percent in December last year

The average annual increase in consumer prices in the member countries of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) slowed to 3.7 percent in December last year from 3.8 percent in the previous month, according to the website of the Paris-based organization.

The OECD has 38 member countries. Compared to November, the rate of price growth slowed in 13 countries, accelerated in 9, and stagnated in 16 countries.

In December, the highest inflation was recorded in Turkey, at 30.9 percent, while at the other extreme was Costa Rica, where prices fell by 1.2 percent.

In OECD countries, food prices rose by 3.9 percent, the same as in November, while energy prices slowed from 3.3 percent in November to 1.6 percent in December.

The so-called Core inflation was 3.8 percent in December, down from 3.9 percent in November.

Inflation in the G7 countries slowed to 2.4 percent in December from 2.5 percent in November, while in the G20 it remained at 3.6 percent.

Last year, Turkey had the highest average inflation rate among OECD countries, at 34.9 percent, while the rate was 1 percent or below in Costa Rica, Switzerland, Finland, Sweden and France.
