It can already be seen from the NTAK: the number of travelers increased by 16% during the autumn break
The period between October 26 and November 3 brought an outstanding desire to travel in our country. The number of guests exceeded half a million, surpassing by 16% the value measured during last year’s school holidays. The turnover of accommodation also increased spectacularly, nearly 1.2 million nights were registered. According to the data of the National Tourist Information Center (NTAK), this means an 11% increase compared to last year. Both domestic and international travelers contributed to the tourism results in the capital and in the countryside, with the former increasing by 10% and the latter by 20%.
Budapest remains a popular destination, especially among foreign visitors. Based on NTAK data, the vast majority (170 thousand) of the more than 250,000 foreign travelers visiting our country during the 8-day autumn break chose the capital to relax. They spent more than 400,000 guest nights in Budapest hotels. However, the winners of this year’s school holidays were the rural settlements, in the case of the approximately 280,000 domestic guests, nine out of 10 travelers chose a destination beyond the capital.
Among them, the spa towns of Eger, Zalakaros, Gyula, Hévíz and Hajdúszoboszló were the most popular. The majority of foreigners who came to the countryside visited Hévíz, Bükk, Sárvár, Győr and Szeged. The majority of international travelers came from the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Romania and the United Kingdom. A large number of families went on vacation during the fall break, which is clearly shown by the fact that a significant 21% of guests under the age of 18 were registered at the accommodations.
Accommodation service providers nationally achieved a revenue of HUF 29 billion during the break, which represents a 24% increase compared to last year’s school holidays. Of this, HUF 11.4 billion was recorded in Budapest, which represents a 26% increase, while the rural HUF 17.6 billion income exceeded last year’s autumn break result by 23%.
