NKFH took decisive action against an influencer who was distributing fake fat-busting products that were withdrawn from circulation due to food adulteration.
The National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) took decisive steps to prevent consumers from being deceived and their health endangered when it banned the further sale of dietary supplements distributed by “Kalóriakirály” due to food adulteration and ordered the suspension of the website advertising the products. Despite this, the distributing influencer is still illegally continuing to sell the products at a foreign domain provider, the authority told MTI on Friday.
According to the information, the influencer was not available at the headquarters of his company in England listed on his previous website, and in fact, there was no entry at all for the company he referred to in the United Kingdom’s company register.
Due to food adulteration, the NKFH is currently conducting official proceedings against the manufacturing company listed on the product label, within the framework of which – given the nature of the violation and the fact that the further distribution of the products poses a serious risk to the health of consumers – it has made an immediately enforceable decision. Since it was clearly established during the official inspection that the examined dietary supplements were marketed with misleading information regarding their essential properties, which is considered food adulteration under the current domestic legislation.
It is recalled that the NKFH had previously ordered the withdrawal from circulation of the CALORIA KING FAT-CRUSHING SERUM dietary supplement capsule with L-carnitine, chromium and plant extracts, 16.2 grams, the CALORIA KING HUNGER-SUFFERING ELIXIR dietary supplement capsule with plant extracts, net weight 13.9 grams/30 capsules, and the CALORIA KING FAT-CRUSHING EXTRA 37.67 PERCENT MORE ACTIVE INGREDIENT dietary supplement capsule with L-carnitine, chromium and plant extracts, 16.05 grams/30 capsules. In addition, a consumer protection official procedure is underway at the Consumer Protection Department of the Budapest Metropolitan Government Office, which is taking place in connection with the legality of advertisements placed on social media sites, misleading information, and the lack of mandatory information elements; a decision has not yet been made in this regard.
The domain registrar – taking into account the authority’s obligation – simultaneously demonstrated law-abiding behavior, as a result of which it immediately took action to remove the content of the website. The influencer in question made the products available again under a foreign domain, bypassing the official decision, while also questioning the impartiality of the acting authorities on his social media platforms
– the statement said.
