The MSZP urges a VAT reduction for food and energy services
The MSZP urges the reduction of the general sales tax (VAT) on food and energy services to five percent.
László Varga, the deputy president of the MSZP, said at a press conference broadcast on the opposition party’s YouTube channel on Tuesday that his party has continuously made proposals in the past period to break the huge “Orbán inflation” in order to make life easier for Hungarian families.
According to him, everything is in place for the government to reduce the VAT on food, electricity and gas, as the budget has a large surplus from VAT, which should be waived for the sake of the Hungarian people and the economy.
He reminded that the MSZP government in 2009, in a very difficult situation, reduced the VAT on district heating to five percent.
He recalled his party’s previous proposal for a five-point rescue package, which includes the abolition of the VAT rate for basic foodstuffs, the special tax that also applies to foodstuffs, and the maintenance of price caps.
