MBH Bank and MOL enter into strategic cooperation to expand the ATM network
Although the popularity of digital payment solutions is growing steadily, surveys examining the payment habits of the population show that cash use continues to play a decisive role in everyday life. In response to this customer demand, MBH Bank and MOL are further expanding the credit institution’s nationwide ATM network within the framework of a strategic partnership. In the first phase of the cooperation, MBH Bank will install new ATMs at 55 MOL filling stations, thus supporting fast and convenient access to cash for customers, the company’s managers announced at a press conference. The partnership closely aligns with MBH Bank’s ATM network development program launched in 2024, the goal of which is for the credit institution to provide ATM access in more than 1,400 locations by the end of 2025 – significantly expanding its current network of more than 1,050 units covering more than 700 settlements.
As part of its network expansion strategy, MBH Bank has entered into a partnership with MOL Hungary in order to make its new ATMs available to the widest possible audience in easily accessible locations. MOL’s nationwide gas station network and high customer traffic provide an ideal environment for the installation of the machines. Through the partnership, MBH ATMs will appear as a new convenience service at gas stations – in addition to cafes and parcel machines. In the first phase of the cooperation, MBH Bank will install ATMs at 55 MOL gas stations, 42 of which are already operational. MOL and MBH Bank presented the details of the ATM installation program at a press conference, where Dr. György Bacsa, Managing Director of MOL Hungary, Péter Ratatics, Managing Director responsible for consumer services at the MOL Group, and Dr. Zsolt Barna, Chairman and CEO of MBH Bank, presented the framework of the cooperation.
In Hungary, the ATM coverage is favorable in international comparison, however, cash withdrawal options in small settlements lag behind those in larger cities, with banknote dispensing machines operating in 967 settlements across the country. MBH Bank currently operates more than 1,050 ATMs in more than 700 settlements, of which it is the only financial institution in 300 small settlements to provide this service, and is committed to further supporting access to financial services. To this end, the bank will rapidly expand its ATM network by installing 50-60 ATMs per month during 2025, in which the strategic partnership of MOL Hungary plays a key role. As a result of the development project worth more than 10 billion forints, MBH ATMs will be available in more than 1,400 locations by the end of 2025 – this represents more than 700 new installation points compared to the start of the project, i.e. a doubling.
