The production volume of industrial tomatoes may increase by 38 percent this year
According to the October forecast of the World Federation of Tomato Processors (WPTC), the amount of industrial tomatoes in Hungary may increase by 38 percent to 110,000 tons in 2023 compared to 2022.
According to KSH data, the import of fresh or chilled tomatoes in the first eight months of 2023 increased to 15.4 thousand tons (+9 percent) compared to the same period of the previous year. Imports from Spain decreased to 4.79 thousand tons (-2 percent), while imports from Slovakia increased to 4.24 thousand tons (+10 percent) and from Turkey to 1.94 thousand tons (+6 percent). The export of tomatoes rose to 14.73 thousand tons (+34 percent), mainly to the Czech Republic (5.55 thousand tons) and Slovakia (4.07 thousand tons) during the observed period.
The price of several tomatoes has also increased
According to the data of AKI PÁIR, the producer price of domestic spherical tomatoes on the Budapest Wholesale Market was 8 percent (729 forints/kilogram), cluster tomatoes 6 percent (858 forints/kilogram), and cocktail tomatoes 9 percent (1,581 forints/kilogram). 1–46. week compared to the same period last year.
