A new scam is spreading: bogus packages with a trick
The past year has been filled with bank fraud, data theft and internet scams, but this year a new type of scam is taking over. The bottom line: Unordered bogus packages arrive at recipients, who then pay for them, only to open them and discover that they are empty or contain worthless content.
According to the MPL courier, who spoke to 24.hu, packages with the FAN logo appeared in recent years, but their number has increased in recent months. Many recipients did not order it, while others received a product that they did not order or of the wrong quality. According to estimates, 4-5 percent of all delivered packages may be suspicious, and they usually cost HUF 7,500, 15,000, 22,000 or 30,000.
Among the recipients are many elderly people who often believe that the package was ordered for them by their children. That’s why they pay and take over the products, but after that there’s not much you can do with them. According to the Magyar Posta, they are only deliverers, so they have no information about the contents of the package.
