Inflation accelerated to 2 percent in the eurozone and 2.3 percent in the EU on an annual basi
Inflation in the euro area and the European Union accelerated in June, according to final figures published on the website of the EU’s statistical office, Eurostat, on Thursday.
In the euro area, consumer prices rose by 2.0 percent in June, up from 1.9 percent in May.
Core inflation excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco in the euro area was 2.3 percent in June, the same as in May.
Energy prices fell by 2.6 percent in June, year-on-year, after falling by 3.6 percent in May. The rise in prices of services accelerated to 3.3 percent in June this year from 3.2 percent in May. The rise in prices of food, alcohol and tobacco slowed to 3.1 percent from 3.2 percent in May.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.3 percent compared to May, when they were unchanged compared to April.
Consumer prices in the European Union rose by 2.3 percent year-on-year in June, following a 2.2 percent increase in May. Compared with the previous month, prices in the EU rose by 0.3 percent.
