Imported swine cheaper than domestic swine
Trends in the world markets of poultry and gardening products are monitored by the Agricultural Business Research Institute (AKI). According to their latest report, prices of and demand for poultry intended for slaughter was lower in May, than in May 2008. Prices of processed chicken parts were up somewhat in the same period, with the exception of chicken breast. The price of turkey breast was also down. Sales of eggs were up by 3 percent in Hungary in the first 21 weeks of 2009. According to a forecast by USDA, global demand for beef and veal is going to drop by 2 percent in 2009. The domestic price of swine rose in May, while that of imported swine was 5 percent lower, resulting in increased import.
