According to an IKEA survey, more than half of Hungarians plan to make innovations in their homes in the next two years
More than half of the respondents plan to change their home in the next two years, according to IKEA’s latest Life at Home report, which examined Hungarians’ relationship with their home. The results show that 42 percent of respondents feel that their home is the most pleasant place to spend their time. At the same time, 31 percent of Hungarians plan to move, and another third (34%) want to renovate their current home. In response to this demand, IKEA launched a new planning aid in May, IKEA Kreativ, which is part of the mobile application and can also be used in the desktop version on the IKEA.hu website. IKEA Kreativ enables users to effectively and creatively design the interior of their home in augmented reality.
The probability of moving decreases with the age of the respondent. While 58 percent of members of Generation Z are considering moving, only 18 percent of those belonging to the “baby boom” generation are. Older generations are more likely than younger generations to renovate their current home (41% vs. 14% of Gen Z). Owners of their own property are less likely to move than renters, but they are more likely to decide to renovate.
The main reasons why the respondents are planning to move are the desire for a bigger place (19%), to leave the place of residence (18%), to be closer to work, school or family (17%), to reduce the cost of living (16% ), and last but not least, the desire for a more sustainable lifestyle (12%). These data reflect the growing trend that Hungarians are increasingly looking for more comfortable and sustainable housing.
