A consumer protection alert was issued for an IKEA product
The European Commission issued a consumer protection alert for one of IKEA’s products, the POKAL cup, after the Dutch authorities reported a problem. According to the Pénzcentrum, the authorities warn that glasses made of tempered glass may not be sufficiently resistant when exposed to heat, especially if they are scratched, for example, when stacking, washing dishes or using a scrubbing sponge. This can cause the glass to break, causing injury if hot liquid is poured into it.
According to the response of IKEA Hungary, the company does not agree with the safety assessment of the Dutch authorities. IKEA emphasized that product safety is of particular importance to them and that their products are thoroughly tested. The company has stated that POKAL glasses comply with all applicable laws and standards in the countries where they are marketed. However, they also share additional information with customers and warn them of potential risks.
IKEA maintains a continuous dialogue with the Dutch authorities and respects their feedback, which helps to improve the quality of the products. It is an important message for customers that the company does everything to ensure that their products are safe.
