Magazine: Demand is growing for both sophisticated and cheaper packaging materials

Zsolt Krajcár, owner of Krajcár Packaging Industry Kft. is of the opinion that the strengthening of multinational retail chains has considerable influence over the domestic packaging material market: packaging costs are being reduced. Simplification takes place in many fields, however in premium categories and niche markets the highest level is demanded. The company’s novelty is resealable upright bags, mostly from PET/PE base material. Mr Krajcár opines that the flexible branch of the Hungarian packaging industry has always been characterised by oversupply and now lower profits can be generated. The new environmental protection product fee compels the company to raise prices; at the same time, it is not clear for Krajcár Packaging Industry Kft. how many new obligations the new law brings for them. All in all, they would like to complete the innovation processes that are already in the pipeline and in the future come out with products with a higher added value. According to Edit Bánkuti, managing director of Csom 2001 Kft. the proportion of environmentally friendly packaging materials vastly increased in Hungary. However, products made with degradable additives appeared in Hungary later than in Western Europe. Economic recession forces many firms to cut down on packaging costs. Csom 2001 Kft.’s partners are buying fewer plastic shopping bags as the product fee of the bag is many times more than its price. They also find it hard to find their way in the maze of constantly changing product fee regulations. István Vaszkun, the head of Dunapack Kft.’s sales division told us that their products not only meet international requirements but are also competitive. He sees two directions on the Hungarian market: one is using cheap materials for the sake of cutting down on packaging costs; the other is using more and more sophisticated packaging materials and solutions (e.g. digital printing, UV-lacquer coating). Dunapack Kft.’s novelties include TWIN BOX and DUAL BOX – both of which can bring real breakthrough in SRP packaging. Theses boxes can be made ready for filling in a moment, thereby improving packaging efficiency.
