25-30 percent of fish marketed in the last weeks of the year
25-30 percent of the annual 30 thousand tons of fish production used to be sold in the last weeks of the year, especially around Christmas in Hungary – said Németh István, Chairman of Mahal to the MTI on Thursday.
In the countries of the European Union, the average per capita fish consumption reaches an annual 19 to 20 kilograms, while in Hungary it is only 4.2 kilograms. In Vas and in Zala counties this figure is only 3-3,5 kilograms. However, at the shores of Lake Balaton and at the settlements beside the Danube traditionally more fish consumed. In Baja as the annual average consumption of fish is up to 70 kilograms.
