In the first five months of the year, retail sales in Romania increased by 8 percent based on raw data, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) announced on Friday.
According to calendar-adjusted data, retail trade expanded by 6.4 percent. Based on the raw data, between January 1 and May 31, the sales revenue from the distribution of non-food products increased by 13.3 percent, the increase in fuel sales was 4.5 percent, and the sales of food, beverages, and tobacco products were 3.5 percent. According to calendar-adjusted data, the retail turnover of non-food products increased by 11.5 percent, fuel by 3.7 percent, and food by 2.8 percent. In May, Romanian retail sales increased by 5.7 percent year-on-year according to raw data, and by 6.1 percent based on calendar-adjusted data. Compared to April, according to the raw data, retail turnover in May decreased by 1.6 percent, adjusted for calendar effects by 0.4 percent.
