The European Commission has no right to withdraw the proposal for authorization of genetically modified maize
According to the legal interpretation of the European Commission, they do not have the right to withdraw the authorization of the Pioneer 1507 genetically modified (GMO) maize. After the voting, the European Commission have to issue the production license – Roger Waite, a spokesman of the European Commission told on Wednesday.
The EU governmenty voted in the General Affairs Council on a proposal by the European Commission to authorise the cultivation of a variety of GM maize in the EU for the first time in 15 years (GM maize 1507). The outcome revealed a majority of EU member states against the authorisation but falling short of the qualified majority required for outright rejection. (Konsiczky Zoltán, MTI)
