In the euro area, the rate of increase in consumer prices slowed down in September
In September, the annual inflation rate in the euro zone slowed down more than previously estimated, according to the final data of Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, presented on Thursday.
The annual inflation rate of the euro zone decreased to 1.7 percent in September, the lowest since April 2021, from 2.2 percent in August. In the preliminary estimate published on October 1, there was still 1.8 percent.
A year earlier, in September of last year, the rate of annual increase in the euro zone consumer price index was 4.3 percent.
In a monthly comparison, consumer prices in the euro area fell by 0.1 percent in September, according to the preliminary estimate, after a 0.1 percent increase was recorded in August.
According to Eurostat data, energy prices decreased by 6.1 percent compared to last September, after decreasing by 3.0 percent in August on an annual basis.
In September, the price of services increased the most, by 3.9 percent, after 4.1 percent in August. The price increase of food, alcohol and tobacco products rose to 2.4 percent in September, after a 2.3 percent increase was recorded in both July and August, while the annual price increase of non-energy industrial products was 0.4 percent in both August and September.
The annual Eurozone core inflation, calculated without the price of energy, food, alcohol and tobacco products, was 2.7 percent in September after 2.8 percent in August.
