Producer prices fell in both the euro area and the European Union in August
Industrial producer prices in the eurozone and the European Union fell both month-on-month and year-on-year in August, according to data released by the European Union’s statistical office, Eurostat, on Friday.
Producer prices in the eurozone fell by 0.3 percent month-on-month in August, more than the 0.1 percent expected by analysts, after registering a 0.3 percent monthly increase in the previous month.
Producer prices in the EU fell by 0.4 percent month-on-month in August, after a 0.6 percent monthly increase in the previous month.
Energy prices in the eurozone fell by 1.3 percent in a month, after rising by 1.7 percent in July.
Energy prices in the European Union fell by 1.4 percent month-on-month in the eighth month of the year, after rising by 2.3 percent in July.
Excluding energy prices, industrial producer prices were flat in both the euro area and the EU.
Euro area producer prices fell by 0.6% in August, more than the 0.4% expected by analysts, for the first time since November 2024, after rising by 0.2% in the previous month. Energy prices fell by 4.1% in the euro area after falling by 1.0% in the previous month.
In the EU, producer prices fell by 0.4% in August, year-on-year, after rising by 0.4% in the previous month. Energy prices fell by 3.4% in the European Union after falling by 1.0% in the previous month.
Excluding energy prices, producer prices rose by 1.0% in the euro area and the EU in the eighth month of the year.
