Consumer sentiment worsened in August in the Eurozone and the EU as well
In August, instead of the expected improvement, consumer sentiment in the Eurozone worsened, according to Wednesday’s report based on preliminary data from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG EcFin).
In the euro area, the consumer sentiment index deteriorated from minus 15.1 points in July to minus 16.0 points, so it was still far from the long-term average. Analysts had previously expected August data of minus 14.3 points.
Last September, the indicator reached its historical low of minus 28.7 points. In the EU, the consumer sentiment index fell from minus 16.1 points to minus 17.0 points in August, also according to non-final data.The final numbers will be announced on August 30.
