Consumer prices in the euro area rose by 2.2 percent in April, following March
The annual inflation rate in the euro area was 2.2 percent in April, in line with the preliminary estimate, unchanged from the previous month, according to the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), calculated for EU comparison purposes, Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, announced on Monday, based on final data published by Eurostat.
A year earlier, in April 2024, the annual increase in the euro area consumer price index was 2.4 percent.
Annual inflation in the European Union fell to 2.4 percent in April, down from 2.5 percent in March. A year earlier, the rate was 2.6 percent.
On a monthly basis, the price index in the euro area rose by 0.6 percent in the fourth month of the year, in line with the preliminary estimate and at the same pace as the previous month.
According to a statement by Eurostat, energy prices in the euro area fell by 3.6 percent year-on-year in April, after a 1.0 percent annual decline in March.
In April, prices of services increased the most, by 4.0 percent, following 3.5 percent in March. The price increase of food, alcohol and tobacco products accelerated to 3.0 percent from 2.9 percent in the previous month, while the annual price increase of non-energy industrial products was 0.6 percent, the same as in the previous month.
