Restoring the EU’s competitiveness is the most important thing
Restoring the competitiveness of the European Union is the most important priority in the program of the Hungarian EU presidency, said the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of European Union Affairs on Thursday on the current channel M1.
Pál Zsigmond Barna, in connection with the fact that Hungary holds the presidency of the EU from July 1 to December 31, added that in the recent period the economic and inflation crisis, the Covid epidemic, the Russian-Ukrainian war, the “misguided sanctions” had the consequences that Europe’s competitiveness deteriorated, the United States “further overtook”, and China also overtook Europe in terms of economic indicators. As an example, he mentioned that energy is much more expensive in Europe than in the United States and China.
He emphasized that I would like to implement the Hungarian presidency program in a difficult period, because the shadow of the Russian-Ukrainian war is cast over all issues in Brussels, which is why peace would be important as soon as possible.
He called it a challenge that they are trying to set a course for Europe in the situation created after the European Parliament elections.
Now there is an institutional transition, a compromise is needed, and then the legislative issues can be dealt with. They expect that there will be an opportunity to present and implement important issues for Hungary, he said.
