European Union member states can decide on growing GMO crops themselves
New EU legislation enters into force in spring: it makes possible for all EU member states to decide whether to ban the growing of GMO crops or not. The new legislation doesn’t modify the authorisation process itself, but it gives member states the chance to ban growing GMO crops in their own territory due to various reasons.
