EU-borders do not open until mid-June
The European Commission would extend the ban on entry into the EU until 15 June, as the coronavirus situation is “not even stable in Europe and the world,” the Eurologist writes.
EU leaders first decided in mid-March to close Schengen borders to non-EU nationals. The decision has once been extended by a month, and now another extension may come.
According to the European Commission’s scenario, for the first time in the Member States, restrictions would be completely lifted so that people could move freely in their own settlements and in the country. If another wave of epidemics does not come after this, the borders between EU countries would be opened up so that the common market can be restored. Prohibitions on the entry of non-EU nationals would only be lifted for the last time.
Only Member States can decide to lift border controls, so it is up to the countries to agree on where and when the borders will reopen.
