The EU would cooperate with China to increase food security
According to Dacian Cioloş, EU Agriculture Commissioner’s communication, Brussels tries to keep the accelerating pace of European agricultural product exports to China therefore offering a cooperation to China in order to improve food safety, and to promote organic food trade.
In 2011, exports of agricultural product exports from the Union to the East Asian country amounted to 105 billion euros, which is equivalent of the U.S. exports to China. In terms of agricultural imports China and Hong Kong is the third largest product source of the EU. Last year, the value of purchases was 2.5 billion euros. (Trebitsch Péter, MTI)
