In addition to regular food order, the renewed Wolt app also facilitates shopping

With its redesigned mobile app, Wolt is preparing to further expand as a quick-commerce platform that goes beyond food delivery to also support online shopping. Navigation is simplified by a universal search-and-browse button and a revamped menu structure, while the new category pages prioritize products over merchants. As a result, users can compare offers from nearby stores in a single view, complemented by a machine-learning model that understands search intent and automatically categorizes results based on relevance.
In the fourth week of January, Wolt’s redesigned mobile app became available on both iOS and Android, with updates that primarily make shopping beyond food delivery more convenient. The redesign was driven by Wolt’s evolving business: in Hungary, a quarter of orders on the quick-commerce platform are now for something other than hot meals. Many users handle their grocery shopping in the app, order over-the-counter products from pharmacies, buy beauty items from their favorite stores, or even purchase electronics. On the updated interface, products take center stage instead of merchants: shoppers can browse similar product categories across multiple partners at once, without having to enter each individual store’s assortment. This also gives merchants more opportunities for users to discover their products within relevant categories.
Faster in-app navigation
The previous structure, with its more complex menu, could no longer keep pace, so Wolt’s developers significantly overhauled in-app navigation. As part of this, the app now features a universal Search and Browse button: using the floating button at the bottom of the screen, users can get anywhere in Wolt—from their favorite restaurant to their go-to hand cream. From now on, a simple search or browsing through categories, collections, and services makes it easier to find the desired product.
The user profile button has moved to the top left corner, while the Activity Center (promotions, news, and offers) remains in the top right. The shopping cart has been moved to the bottom of the screen, where it stays visible so it can be tapped comfortably with a thumb. Animations and thumb-friendly gestures help users move between sections, enabling them to reach the desired merchant’s or restaurant’s selection with fewer taps.
New category pages replace store pages
The way users discover things on Wolt has fundamentally changed: in the new app, the starting point is no longer a specific store or restaurant and its assortment, but the product itself. Whether it’s headphones, moisturizer, or frozen pizza, users can see offers from nearby stores in a unified view and browse like they would in an online storefront to find the best fit.

For example, if a user needs new headphones, in the redesigned Wolt app they can look under the Electronics category, where they can easily filter for Headphones while browsing the assortments of multiple nearby electronics retailers. Similarly, moisturizer can be found under the Beauty category, where the app lists the relevant type of cream from offers by pharmacies, drugstores, and supermarkets.
Machine learning supports searches
ScreenshotAs Wolt’s assortment continues to expand, searching within the app is becoming smarter and more intuitive. A new machine-learning model can now understand search intent and organize results in the most relevant way—for example into Grocery, Restaurant, Pharmacy, or Electronics categories.
For instance, if a user searches for the word “protein,” the system lists protein powders from health and beauty stores, shows protein bars available from grocery stores in a separate category, and also lists high-protein meals from nearby restaurants. These results are grouped and ranked by intent, and the list can be refined further with smart filters.
The team developing the Wolt app has also refreshed the app’s visual design. This is not merely a new look that elevates the Wolt experience, but also a foundation for growth. The redesigned layout gives Wolt the flexibility to introduce new categories, highlight a wider range of products, and support continuously evolving shopping experiences—allowing it to adapt as a quick-commerce platform to the expected further expansion of its assortment.
