A strong Forint helped meat import
The Agricultural Economics Research Institute (AKI) continuously monitors and publishes world trends in poultry and fruit/vegetable products. Their last report reveals that in the first quarter beef prices continued to grow in the US and Argentina, while in the EU and Hungary they fell. The production price of domestically bred slaughter pig decreased: on the 16th week it was HUF 327/kg; behind this trend we find the influence of a strong Forint, which reduced import prices.
Domestic slaughter poultry sales expanded by 19 percent in the first four months of 2010. The processing sales price of whole chicken decreased by 5 percent. By the end of April, domestic slaughter turkey sales were 14 percent lower than a year earlier; domestic turkey meat sales were down by 15.5 percent.
