The EP agreed to the maintenance of measures supporting the import of Ukrainian agricultural products into the EU
At the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, it agreed to the maintenance of the extraordinary EU measures for the import of agricultural products from Ukraine, the EU Parliament informed on Tuesday.
The European Commission’s proposal, adopted with 537 votes, 42 against and 38 abstentions, extends the suspension of import duties, anti-dumping duties and other safeguards on Ukrainian exports to the European Union for another year. According to the EP, the maintenance of the measure is necessary because of Russia’s war, which prevents Ukraine from maintaining its trade with the rest of the world.
These are subject to the suspension of customs duties
The suspension of customs duties applies to fruits and vegetables subject to the entry price system, as well as to agricultural products and processed agricultural products subject to tariff quotas. Pursuant to the EU-Ukraine association agreement, industrial products are subject to zero customs duties from January 1, 2023, so they are not included in the new proposal, they informed. The decree must also be approved by the Council of the European Union, which brings together the ministers of the EU member states, and it will enter into force the day after the measure is announced.
