In the first quarter, the number of foreign tourists arriving in Romania increased by 8.8 percent year-on-year
In the first quarter, the number of foreign tourists arriving in Romania increased by 8.8 percent compared to the same period last year, the National Statistical Institute (INS) announced on Wednesday.
By the end of March, 414.8 thousand foreign tourists arrived in Romania and spent at least one night in commercial accommodation, while in the same period of 2023, 381.1 thousand. Most of them, 237 thousand, came from the European Union, 11.4 percent more than a year earlier.
The number of guest nights by foreigners increased by 5.4 percent, to 918.1 thousand from last year’s 871 thousand. Most foreign tourists came from Italy (51.6 thousand), Germany (37.2 thousand) and Great Britain (26.7 thousand).
In March, according to INS data, 162.4 thousand foreign tourists used accommodation in Romania, 13.8 percent more. The number of guest nights increased by 8.4 percent to 348.6 thousand.
In the first quarter, the number of domestic tourists in accommodation was 1.2 percent higher, 2.056 million, than in the same period of 2023 (2.031 million). The number of guest nights of Romanian tourists increased by 1.7 percent from 3.690 million to 3.753 million.
In March, the number of Romanian tourists was 692.5 thousand, 3 percent more than a year earlier. The number of guest nights increased by 4.2 percent to 1.252 million.
