The export of live pigs increased by 38 percent
According to KSH data, Hungary’s live pig export increased by 38.7 percent to 14.7 thousand tons in January-May 2024 compared to the amount in January-May 2023. The main partners were Romania, Austria, Slovakia and Albania.

Imports of live pigs increased by 8.7 percent to 29.4 thousand tons, Slovakia, Croatia, Germany and the Czech Republic being the largest suppliers. The quantity of pork sold on the international market increased by 20 percent (70,000 tons), and its value increased by 19.2 percent during the observed period.
Most of the pork was shipped to Romania, Italy and Croatia
The volume of pork imports exceeded the value of the same period of the previous year by 7.1 percent (60.8 thousand tons) and its value by 12.8 percent. More than two-thirds of the pork came from Germany, Spain, Austria and Poland. According to the data of AKI PÁIR, the producer price of domestically produced slaughter pigs without VAT and transport costs was 841 forints/kilogram of hot butchered weight in July 2024, an 11 percent decrease compared to the average price a year earlier.
