The supply chain is catching up with deforestation and agriculture as the largest emitters of the agri-food sector
Within the agri-food system, the food supply chain is close to outpacing agriculture and tillage in terms of greenhouse gas emissions due to food processing, packaging, transport, trade, household consumption, waste management and the rapid increase in fertiliser production, according to a new study by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO).
