The long winter caused a delay in the ice cream season
The ice cream market is slowly accelerates as the long winter and the cold weather was not conducive for the turnover of the family boxed ice cream and therefore a slight decline can be experienced, compared to the first half of last year. The Household Panel datas of GfK Hungária show that the share of discount stores has intensified, the supermarkets have maintained their third place, but their share has declined. The most favorite is still the traditional chocolate and vanilla flavors.
2012 was very favorable to the ice cream manufacturers and distributors: after 2011, the category could expand even in 2012. Throughout the year, households bought nearly 14 percent more of family boxed ice cream than in 2011 due to, inter alia, the nice, warm weather.
