Half of the consumed fish is imported
The per capita fish consumption in Hungary has reached 4 kilogrammes. Half of this amount comes from imports – Kardeván Endre, Chief Veterinarian, Minister of State of the Ministry of Rural Development, responsible for Food Chain Surveillance and Agri management told at a press conference in Budapest on Thursday.
In the European countries, the per capita seafish consumption is much higher, up to 20 kilograms. The half or two-thirds of the low Hungarian consumption occures in the Christmas season, however, 10 percent of the population does not eat fish anytime – the Minister of State added. (MTI)
