Most grocery chains will be open until noon on December 24th

Most grocery chains are open on December 24th, and their stores usually open until 12:00, but opening hours may vary from store to store for some chains.

Aldi informed MTI that its stores will be open until noon on December 24th and until 4:00 p.m. on December 31st this year. They will be closed on December 25 and 26, and January 1.

Auchan stores will also be open until 12:00 on December 24. On December 25 and 26, their stores will be closed uniformly, and on December 31, they will welcome customers until 16:00.

Penny stores will be open until 12:00 nationwide on December 24, and will be closed on December 25 and 26. On December 31, you can shop there until 2 p.m., and on January 1, all of their stores will remain closed.

Spar told MTI that on December 24, its stores will be open until 12 p.m., and on December 31, Spar and City Spar supermarkets will be open until 2 p.m., and Interspar hypermarkets until 4 p.m. Exceptions are stores located in shopping centers, which in some cases will operate with longer opening hours, OMV-Spar express and ORLEN-Despar stores located at gas stations, which in many cases operate with 0-24-hour opening hours, and some Spar partner and Spar market franchise stores, the opening hours of which are decided by the store owners.

Tesco stores will welcome customers until 12:00 this year as well, and will be closed on December 24th and 25th and 26th. They will be open until 6 p.m. on December 31st and will be closed on January 1st.

The opening hours of CBA stores on December 24th are determined individually by each store in the network, so it is worth checking each store individually. The stores will be closed uniformly on December 25th and 26th, and on January 1st.

According to the information sent to MTI by Lidl, the company will continue its initiative launched in 2023 this year, according to which its stores will be closed nationwide on December 24th. The aim of the decision is to allow employees to focus on calm preparation and time spent with their loved ones. Their stores will not open from December 24 to 26, but customers will be welcome nationwide until 10 p.m. on December 23.

McDonald’s told MTI that all of the company’s restaurants and most of its franchise partners’ units will be closed on December 24-25 so that the restaurant chain’s employees can spend the holiday season with their families. Out of the more than 120 restaurants, only the units in Budapest’s Aréna Mall and Allee are exceptions on December 24, due to contractual obligations with the shopping centers. On December 25, only the units in Debrecen will be open.
