Customers are also looking for the record-breaking iPhones in refurbished versions
Smartphones purchased during the pandemic have now become eligible for replacement, and Hungarian buyers are surprisingly looking for not only the cheapest, but also high-end, refurbished iPhones, according to recent data from Rejoy.hu. The 13 series is the most popular, but buyers are also increasingly interested in refurbished copies of the iPhone 15 and 16 models, as their prices are significantly lower than new devices.
According to analysts at market research firm Counterpoint, Apple is expected to sell more new smartphones than Samsung by the end of this year, mainly due to the favorable reception of the iPhone 17 series devices. The last time something like this happened was fourteen years ago, in the year of the iPhone 4s’ premiere.
According to estimates by the IDC analysis firm, Apple could sell more than 247 million iPhones from January to the end of the year, breaking the record set by the iPhone 13, which was launched four years earlier: the latter device sold around 236 million iPhones in the year of its premiere in 2021. According to the company, Apple’s favorable phone sales this year may be helped by the fact that those who bought new smartphones during the pandemic will replace them now.
Hungarians are looking for record-breaking iPhones in refurbished sales
This is also supported by the sales statistics of Rejoy.hu, as the company that sells refurbished mobile devices with a warranty has seen the iPhone 13 series as a hit device this year, both on the seller and buyer side. This is not surprising, since the iPhone 13 models – especially the Pro model with the zoom camera – are considered good in the current field, and the latest iOS 26 system is available for them, so you can get a good price for the device as a seller.
Last year, the iPhone 11 was the fifth most popular product, but this year it has completely disappeared from the top 10, while the popularity of the iPhone 14 series has jumped significantly compared to last year, which predicts that it will be the favorite of price-sensitive users in 2026.
Counterpoint’s other analysis, the iPhone 16-series models were the best-selling smartphones worldwide in the third quarter of this year. Although not during this period at Rejoy, demand for the models of this series increased during Black Friday and the Christmas season, with customers mainly looking for refurbished copies of the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max models. The iPhone 15 Pro, which is available for a similar price to the regular iPhone 16, is a more popular device.
If it’s simple, many people pay in installments
Since autumn, customers who have chosen the Swedish Klarna BNPL solution have been able to pay the purchase price of their ordered, refurbished devices at Rejoy, interest-free, within three months. The introduction of the solution, which can be accessed in just a few minutes of online administration, significantly boosted installment payments; in the first weeks of this year’s Christmas season, 25 percent of the refurbished devices sold were paid for in this way, which is a very high rate in online commerce.
“In October, it seemed that our growth would stall, and then we closed the most successful month in the company’s history in November. Our monthly trends clearly show that customers are increasingly waiting for bigger promotions: while our annual growth in October was only single-digit, in November it had already jumped to more than one and a half times. By the end of 2025, we had reached a clear trend reversal: there is now strong demand not only for the most affordable models, but also for the more capable Pro devices. This customer shift was also driven by the increase in the average order value and the rapid popularity of Klarna’s three-month interest-free installment payments supports”
– summarized the annual trends Bence Blaumann, CEO of Rejoy.hu.
