Danone Launches Healthy Milk Project in Turkey
The Turkish branch of Danone, Danone Tikvesli, has inaugurated its “Healthy Milk Production Facility” in Yeniköy, in the region of Afyonkarahisar.
The
“Healthy Milk Production Facility” is in fact a new project
initiated by Danone in cooperation with the Turkish Ministry of
Agriculture to support small scale farmers, whereby Danone will help
local farmers to produce milk at a higher quality and in conformity
with EU norms for a lower cost.
Danone Tikveºli said that it will help
the farmers achieve better milk hygiene and feeding efficiency,
mainly with the establishment of a feed producing unit so that they
may grow their own crops. Moreover, the company will set up a Central
Milking Parlour unit to ensure that cows are milked in a hygienic
way.
According to Danone Tikveºli, the
project is expected to grow the area’s milk production by 67% –
from the current 12 litres produced by each cow daily to 20 litres.
The company expects that the total
microbiological content of the milk will fall by 84 % (from 320.000ml
to 50.000ml). Finally, Danone believes that, thanks
to the initiative, farmers’ veterinary costs could drop by up to
60%.
