E-commerce companies are also suffering from the crisis
Drastic inflation, the rise in overhead costs and the uncertainty experienced by consumers soon had an impact on online retail as well: in September, 49 percent of e-commerce companies experienced a decline in their turnover, in the case of 33 percent of them this rate reached 30 percent, according to Olcsóbbat.hu.
41 percent of the respondents identified the decrease in purchasing power as the main reason for the decline – forced savings due to high inflation and the increase in utility expenses -, another 20 percent highlighted the general market uncertainty, which currently forces customers to wait and save for the future. 91 percent of online retailers assessed that the significant weakening of the forint compared to the euro and dollar negatively affects their operations, 63 percent of them believe that this effect is significant.
57 percent of online retailers said that they experience product shortages or other disruptions in the supply chain. In a previous similar survey conducted in the weeks following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, this rate was only 23 percent. Every fifth e-commerce company stated that the disruptions are significant, there are many products that are currently unavailable or much more difficult to obtain than in previous periods.
