Fraudsters try to use almost perfect copies in their scams

Online banking fraud has reached a new level: attackers are now using not only deceptive emails, but also increasingly using interfaces that are deceptively similar to bank websites to trick customers into providing their data or installing malicious software. According to K&H’s experience, fraudsters are using increasingly sophisticated methods, so awareness and caution are key to avoiding abuse.

During the increasingly frequent new types of attacks, fraudsters send emails that almost completely copy the corporate identity of K&H or another bank, and that are also linguistically authentic. Not only K&H, but also the police have drawn attention to this in recent days. These typically falsely refer to some kind of “security check” or “remote assistance” and direct recipients to a link.

By clicking on the link, customers are taken to a website that looks almost identical to the official K&H website, but the URL in the browser address bar is different from the original. The aim of the fraudsters is to obtain login details through this interface or to trick the customer into downloading an application that provides remote access.

The “help” offered by the attackers actually poses a serious risk: with the installed program, they can gain access to the device, thus opening the way for subsequent telephone fraud or the installation of malicious software.

The bank emphasizes that the financial institution never asks its customers to install an application that provides remote access to the given device, be it a notebook, desktop computer, tablet or smartphone.

The most important defensive steps

According to K&H experts, the risk of fraud can be significantly reduced by following a few basic rules.

Always check the website address: official K&H websites always follow the format https://kh.hu/ or https://oldal_neve.kh.hu/.

When banking, always think critically: be suspicious if they are urgent or ask for extraordinary measures and do not give out your bank credentials in an email or on a suspicious website.

K&H emphasizes that no bank will ever ask you to install an application that provides remote access.

A quick reaction can prevent greater damage

If you suspect that someone has become a victim of fraud, immediate action is important. K&H customers can take the necessary steps as quickly as possible by calling via mobile banking or using KATE, the digital assistant.

The bank emphasizes: the methods of fraudsters are constantly evolving, so customer awareness and caution are one of the most effective protections.

For the safety of customers, not only quick response, but also call authentication is key. This is supported by K&H’s new caller ID solution. When a bank employee calls the customer, a real-time, authentic bank notification appears on the e-bank and mobile bank interface, confirming that the call is indeed from K&H. This message can not only be checked immediately, but can also be retrieved later if questions arise regarding the authenticity of the call.
