OTP Bank helps its customers with a new security feature against transfer fraudsters
OTP Mobilbank’s new security feature, Transfer Guard, provides protection against transfer fraud. When activated, online transfers of larger amounts must be approved by an authorized person designated by the account holder, the financial institution informed MTI on Wednesday.
The statement reminds us that in addition to technical tricks, online fraudsters use psychological manipulation – building trust, instilling fear, or urging – to get their victims, often older people, to make transfers themselves, so it is crucial to have someone to help them make rational decisions in suspicious situations.
OTP Bank’s new free feature, Transfer Guard, creates a safety net and an extra line of defense by allowing the account holder to designate a family member or friend who will be notified before larger transfers and can stop the suspicious transaction if necessary.
The statement quotes László Sonjic, Senior Advisor at OTP Bank’s Security Directorate, who emphasized that the new feature does not take away the account holder’s freedom, but merely offers a safety net that helps prevent serious losses. He recommended that customers activate this feature as soon as possible.
