Meat products price grow over average
In June 2008 the producer price level of agricultural products was 21.6% higher than in June 2007. More specifically, the price level of crops and horticultural products increased by 20.5% while that of live animals and animal products by 22.9%.
The input price level of agricultural
production was 23.3% higher in the second quarter of 2008 than in the
corresponding period of 2007. The producer price level of
agricultural products went
up by 28.2% in the first half of 2008
compared to the same period of the previous year as a result of the
price rise of crops and horticultural products by 34.7% and that of
live animals and animal products by 20.2%. The input price level of
agricultural production was 23.5% higher in the same period In June
2008 the producer prices of cereals rose by 34.7% compared to June of
the previous year. The producer prices of potatoes went down by
10.8%. In the sixth month of the year the prices of fresh vegetables
rose by 13.5% compared to June of the previous year, mainly in
consequence of the price increase of green peas (12.1%). Prices of
cucumbers rose by 15.4%, while those of green peppers decreased by
6.9% in the same period.
The producer price decrease of fruits
(1.7%) was dominantly influenced by the opposite-direction price
movements of sour cherry and raspberries. Sour cherry prices fell by
43.9% (which is predominantly the consequence of a significant fall
of procurement prices), while raspberry prices were up by 23.2%
compared to June of the previous year.
The producer price increase of live
animals (26.1%) stemmed from the price increases of poultry for
slaughter, pigs for slaughter and cattle for slaughter by 28.8%,
28.6% and 12.0%, respectively. Within the 17.7% price rise of animal
products the producer price of fresh eggs rose by 16.9% and that of
milk by 17.7% compared to June of the previous year; though it is
worth noting that the procurement price of milk has been declining
since its peak of 96.5 HUF per litre measured in January and was
equal to 79.7 HUF per litre in June.
In the first half of 2008 the average
producer prices of cereals surged by 69.0% compared to January–June
of the previous year. The prices of potatoes decreased by 14.9%.
Fresh vegetable prices went up by 7.8%, while fruit prices by 10.4%
compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
The producer prices of live animals
were 17.2% higher than in January–June 2007. A significant price
increase could be observed in case of poultry for slaughter (24.6%),
a lower for pigs for slaughter (15.3%), while prices of cattle for
slaughter rose only to a minor extent (0.9%). Compared to the first
half of the previous year the average producer price level of animal
products rose by 25.0%; more specifically, the producer prices of
milk and fresh eggs increased by 28.4%, and 15.6%, respectively.
In the first half of 2008 the price
level of goods and services currently consumed in agriculture was
26.5% higher than in the same period of the previous year. The price
of energy used rose by 19.2%. The prices of animal feedingstuffs,
having a significant weight, went up by 47.7%, while those of
fertilizers by 51.4% compared to January– June 2007. The
considerable price increase of fertilizers was highly influenced by
the 69.9% price rise of compound fertilizers. The prices of
veterinary and plant protection products were 4.8% and 4.7% higher
than in the same period of the previous year, respectively. The price
level of agricultural investments rose by 4.7%.
In the first half of 2008 the value of
the agricultural terms of trade indicator was 103.8%, reflecting that
compared to the same period of the previous year the increase rate of
agricultural prices was higher than that of input prices.
